"Painting"
The ninth exhibition from David E. Stone’s yearlong art exhibition project, one year in LA is entitled, “Painting”.
In "Painting", the history and tradition of painting is the point of departure for Stone's September exhibition. This conversation heats up with the use of paint-by-number images to define social convention through the utilization of a craft or hobby-type kit for fine art purposes.
Although not resembling completed paint-by-number paintings, Stone's finished works are dark and ominous studies of regimentation and specificity and somewhat Orwellian in their design.
In addition to the framed paintings, this exhibition also includes a huge painting with neon wall installation.
"Painting" will be on exhibit from September 4 - 26, 2004.
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, September 4, from 6pm - 10pm.
The closing reception will be held on Friday, September 24, from 6pm - 10pm.
