"Ex Libris"

Book Signing Performance

At 8:30pm, David E. Stone conducted a Book Signing Performance during the Opening Reception for "Ex Libris" on June 5, 2004.

He started by writing the phrase, "If you can read" on the wall with graphite.

Following the writing on the wall, he then starting digging through a pile of books on the floor until he had placed 25 random hard bound books on an empty shelf on the book shelves against one gallery wall.  Stone then transferred those books to a table where he began mulling over each book declaring that he had neither read nor had written that book and rubber stamped & signed the book verifying that fact.

Once all 25 books had been stamped and transferred back to the shelves, he went back to the wall writing additional words to transform the phrase into the sentence, "If you can read English, this could make sense".

Photographs from the performance.
