"Ex Libris"

The sixth exhibition from David E. Stone’s yearlong art exhibition project, one year in LA is entitled, “Ex Libris”.

Is reading still relevant in our society?  Stone considers that question with series of digital prints and book sculptures in this "Ex Libris" exhibition.  In addition to the exhibited static works, a book signing performance will occur during the opening reception on Saturday, June 5.  During this event, Stone will sign books selected at random from a pile in the center of the gallery floor.  In each of the 25 selected hard bound books for the "performance edition", he will make a rubber stamp impression which will verify that he has neither read or written that particular book.  He will sign each book to complete this verification.  A larger and easily affordable "standard edition" of 100 paperback books which were signed in advance will also be on exhibit and for sale at the gallery space and on this website.

Surrounding the walls of the gallery and book cases, viewers will see Stone's digital photographs of close-up views of books being burned from the Francios Truffaut movie, Fahrenheit 451, based on the classic book of the same name by Ray Bradbury.

"Ex Libris" will be on exhibit from June 5 - 27, 2004.

An opening reception will be held on Saturday, June 5 from 6pm - 10pm.

The closing reception will be held on Friday, June 25 from 6pm - 10pm.
